Tranexamic Acid+Glutathione Eye Cream

The Mary&May Tranexamic Acid + Glutathione Eye Cream is a nourishing eye treatment developed for dark circles, uneven pigmentation, dryness and early signs of skin aging around the eyes.

The formula combines tranexamic acid, glutathione and niacinamide with hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients to improve the appearance of a dull, tired-looking eye area.

The cream contains 1,000 ppm (0.1%) tranexamic acid. Tranexamic acid is an interesting ingredient in pigmentation-focused skincare because it can interfere with pathways involved in melanogenesis. Topically, it has been studied particularly in relation to uneven pigmentation and melasma.

However, concentration matters. At 0.1%, the tranexamic acid concentration in this eye cream is lower than concentrations commonly used in dedicated pigmentation treatments. I therefore consider it a supportive brightening ingredient rather than an intensive treatment for hyperpigmentation.

The formula also contains 1,000 ppm (0.1%) glutathione, an endogenous antioxidant involved in cellular protection against oxidative stress. Topical glutathione has also attracted interest for its potential influence on melanin production, although evidence remains less established than for ingredients such as retinoids or certain other pigmentation treatments.

Interestingly, niacinamide appears much higher in the ingredient list. This well-studied form of vitamin B3 supports epidermal barrier function and can help improve uneven pigmentation by reducing the transfer of melanin-containing melanosomes to epidermal cells. For this reason, I consider niacinamide an important part of the brightening effect of this formulation.

The cream also contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) for additional antioxidant support, although it appears toward the end of the ingredient list and I would not consider this a dedicated vitamin C treatment.

From a hydration perspective, glycerin, Glycereth-26, betaine, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate help attract and retain water within the upper layers of the skin. A combination of emollients and fatty ingredients helps soften the delicate eye area and reduce the appearance of fine dehydration lines.

Adenosine provides additional skin-conditioning and smoothing support, while sea buckthorn oil contributes lipids and antioxidant compounds.

Overall, this is a comfortable brightening and moisturizing eye cream that combines several complementary ingredients rather than relying on one highly concentrated active.
