Collagen Gel Mask: Heartleaf Jelly

The Abib Collagen Gel Mask Sedum Jelly is an intensive hydrogel mask designed to provide deep surface hydration, temporary plumping and a smoother, more luminous complexion. Its jelly-like hydrogel sheet closely adheres to the skin, creating an occlusive environment that helps reduce evaporation while the hydrating essence remains in prolonged contact with the skin.

The formula contains approximately 100,005 ppm (~10%) fermented vegan collagen. From a medical skincare perspective, it is important to understand what topical collagen can—and cannot—do. Collagen applied to the skin does not replace lost collagen within the dermis. Instead, it primarily acts as a moisturizing and film-forming ingredient, helping retain water at the skin surface and giving dehydrated skin a temporarily smoother and more plumped appearance.

One of the most relevant active ingredients in the formula is niacinamide, which appears high in the ingredient list. This well-studied form of vitamin B3 supports epidermal barrier function and can help improve uneven pigmentation and dullness, contributing to a more even and luminous complexion.

The mask also contains Sedum sarmentosum extract, a succulent plant extract used for its hydrating, antioxidant and skin-conditioning properties. I consider it a supportive botanical ingredient rather than the primary active responsible for the effects of the mask.

Hydration is further supported by an extensive multi-hyaluronic acid complex, including hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, sodium acetylated hyaluronate, hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate, sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer and potassium hyaluronate.

These different hyaluronic acid derivatives primarily work as humectants, helping attract and retain water within the stratum corneum. This increased hydration can temporarily soften fine dehydration lines and make the skin appear smoother and more supple.

Why is the hydrogel technology different?

Unlike a conventional fabric sheet mask soaked in serum, this mask uses a gel sheet created by solidifying the essence itself. The hydrogel conforms closely to the skin and limits evaporation while it is worn.

This creates a temporary occlusive environment that can increase hydration of the stratum corneum—which is one reason the skin can appear particularly plump, smooth and luminous immediately after removing a hydrogel mask.
