The SOME BY MI Retinol Intense Reactivating Mask is a creamy sheet mask designed to provide intensive hydration while supporting smoother skin texture, radiance and early signs of skin aging.
The formula combines three popular anti-aging ingredients—retinol, retinal and bakuchiol—but their concentrations deserve some context.
The mask contains retinol at 10 ppb, which is an extremely low concentration compared with dedicated retinol treatments. Retinal and bakuchiol are also included, although their exact concentrations are not disclosed. From a medical skincare perspective, I would therefore not consider this mask a replacement for a dedicated retinoid serum.
Instead, one of the more relevant ingredients in the formulation is niacinamide, which appears fourth in the ingredient list. This well-studied form of vitamin B3 supports epidermal barrier function and can help improve uneven pigmentation, dullness and overall skin tone.
The mask also provides substantial hydration through an extensive 10-type hyaluronic acid complex, including sodium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, potassium hyaluronate, sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer and sodium acetylated hyaluronate. These different hyaluronic acid derivatives primarily act as humectants, helping retain water within the upper layers of the skin and temporarily plump fine dehydration lines.
A combination of glycerin, betaine, trehalose, beta-glucan and panthenol provides further humectant and soothing support.
The formula contains several forms of Centella asiatica, together with its characteristic compounds madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid. These provide complementary soothing, antioxidant and skin-conditioning support.
From a barrier perspective, squalane, olive oil, hydrogenated lecithin and Ceramide NP provide additional emollient and lipid support, helping the skin feel softer and more supple after application.
Adenosine and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 complement the anti-aging concept, while tocopherol and glutathione provide additional antioxidant support.
Overall, I consider this primarily a hydrating and smoothing sheet mask with supportive anti-aging ingredients, rather than an intensive retinoid treatment.

RETINOL
Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and has to be to retinoid acid in skin. It is a potent antioxidant that stimulates collagen production and increases cell turnover, which helps to improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, and improve overall skin tone. Retinol is also effective in reducing acne and regulating oil production in the skin. However, it can be irritating to some skin types, and its use should be gradually introduced and monitored.
BAKUCHIOL
It is extracted from Babchi plant, important in Indian and Chinese medicine. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial abilities. Recently it was found that Bakuchiol acts similarly like retinol. Although it has nothing to do with vitamin A, it was found that retinol and bakuchiol regulate skin behaviour in a similar way.
SODIUM HYALURONATE
It's a salt form of a famous hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural moisturising factor (NMF).It is more stable and has lower molecular weight than HA, therefore penetrates deeper into the epidermis (till stratum granulosum). It rejuvenates the skin by reinforcing and stimulating natural HA production in the epidermis.
