AHA BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner

BETAINE SALICYLATE

It is a fatty acid derived from the sugar beet plant. It is a combination of salicylic acid, a famous exfoliant ant Betaine, a great moisturizer. It counts as a mild exfoliant, natural moisturizer and skin smoothing agent. Although betaine salicylate is similar to salicylic acid, but unlike it, it is surprisingly gentle on the skin. It is generally accepted that betaine salicylate is twice as gentle as salicylic acid: 4% betaine salicylate product is similar to a 2% salicylic acid one.

SODIUM LACTATE

Is a salt of lactic acid, a second well researched AHA after glycolic acid. Like Glycolic acid it has exfoliant and skin hydrating abilities. The main difference between these two molecules is that lactic acid is bigger, and therefore does not penetrate skin as deep as glycolic acid does. Because of that it is a little bit milder exfoliant than glycolic acid. 

GLYCOLIC ACID

Glycolic acid is an AHA and it’s the smallest and simplest, but most researched AHA with the most proven skin benefits. It can exfoliate, reduce pigmentation, increase collagen synthesis and even improve acne by controlling sebum production. The most effective for exfoliation are considered to be 5-10% concentrations. There are also more intense, rinse-off glycolic acid peels with higher concentrations of AHAs, which you can used on an occasional basis (about once a week),  to improve the look of deeper wrinkles.

ALANTOIN

A soothing ingredient can be found in the roots & leaves of the comfrey plant, but in the cosmetic products is produced mostly synthetically. It is also skin-softening and protecting and can promote wound healing.

PANTHENOL

Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), is a water-soluble vitamin that is widely used in skincare products due to its ability to improve skin hydration and texture. It has a moisturizing effect on the skin by enhancing its barrier function, which helps to prevent transepidermal water loss. Panthenol also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to soothe irritated or inflamed skin. It can also help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting skin cell regeneration.
